BIGFOOT: Motocross bikes are built for average size men. There is nothing average about a size 15 boot. An offset Hammerhead shifter knob helps personalize your bike to fit your size.

COMPLETE KIT: We opted for just the knob, but Hammerhead will offer complete shift lever kits for most motocross bikes.

The easy way to modify your shift lever to fit your boot size.

Did you know that factory riders run works shift levers? Who can blame them? They are picky, and the race team will cater to their every whim. For the rest of us, the stock shift lever is normally good enough--unless you have a size 15 foot. Or a size 7. Or your once-broken ankle doesn't flex as well as it used to.

Unfortunately, the average Joe doesn't have a factory catering to his every wish. That’s where Hammerhead Designs enters the picture. With their Shift Tip, a rider can move his shifter knob back, forward or inward.

Here’s a list of things that stand out with Hammerhead Designs Shift Tip?

(1) SIZE. Hammerhead offers two sizes of Shift Tips: a short version and a long version. Most MXA test riders prefer the long version (it’s the same size as the stock shift lever). Another nice aspect of the Shift Tip is that rather than being smooth like the stock shifter, the Shift Tip is knurled for extra grip.

(2) POSITION. Hammerhead Designs offers three lengths of Shift Tips for Yamahas. There’s a zero offset, plus 5mm, plus 10mm and plus 15mm. We typically choose the plus 5mm Shift Tip.

(3) INSTALLATION. While Hammerhead makes complete shift levers for Hondas, on the Yamaha you have to cut off the stock shift knob to install Hammerhead’s Shift Tip. The easiest way to do this is to take a grinder and grind through the pin that holds on the stock shift knob.

(4) REPLACEMENT PART. If you’re wondering why Hammerhead offers a zero offset Shift Tip, you haven’t ridden your bike long enough. Over time, the stock shift knob will start to jangle and tilt forward. This is when you’ll want to replace it with a zero offset Shift Tip. Other than that, it is best left to people with big feet.

The Hammerhead Designs Shift Tip doesn't have any real weaknesses. We just recommend you check the bolt to make sure it doesn't work loose.

The quality and workmanship of Hammerhead Designs’ Shift Tip is top notch. Installation can be a little tricky, but we guarantee you’ll be very satisfied with the results.
